In Memory of Our Brother Tehseen Khan (may Allah have mercy on him)

When I attended the Janazah of our Brother Tehseen Khan (may Allah have mercy upon him) on Sunday 3 February 2013 (22 Rabiul Awal 1434H) at Scholemoor Cemetery, Bradford, I shed a tear alongside many others. Brother Tehseen had passed away at the age of 31 after having been diagnosed with a brain tumour in early 2012. I remembered him from the very early days at IslamBradford in 2004.  He was one of the young, energetic brothers who started off with us in a large terraced house on Manningham Lane; the first IslamBradford Centre. I remember Brother Tehseen above all as always having a smile on his face, a particularly strong rapport with guest speakers and great ambitions for IslamBradford. All projects have humble beginnings and dedicated workers and Brother Tehseen was one of those dedicated workers who helped grow the project from obscurity to prominence.

From 2004 till early 2012 when he became ill, Brother Tehseen held a number of key positions at IslamBradford including Chairman of the Management Committee and Member of the Board of Trustees. He also combined his role at IslamBradford more recently with his duties as Ameer of the AlKauthar Institute in Bradford. When I saw him last a few weeks ago I was very impressed to see him still talking about da’wah, very patient and hoping for the reward with Allah, despite the great difficulties he must have been going through at the time.

Shaikh Tawfique Chowdhury led Brother Tehseen’s Janazah prayer at the cemetery. The Janazah was attended by hundreds of brothers from his native Bradford and from all over the region and the weather held. All signs of acceptance from Allah inshallah.

Even though our Brother Tehseen has returned to his Lord and is out of sight, his name will not be forgotten in the history of IslamBradford and his reward is with Allah, the Most High. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) said in a hadith in Muslim, “Whoever sets a good precedent in Islam will have the reward for that and the reward of those who do it after him, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”

May Allah have mercy upon our brother Tehseen, forgive his sins, enter him into the highest of Jannah and give his wife, three young children and family the patience to carry on in the best way. Ameen.
